i'll admit to being less than empathetic with some things. like with parents whose children throw a massive fit when they leave a store that they let said child rip and play with everything off the shelves without buying anything. but with anything memory loss related i just get it. i totally do.
when a woman came into the store this morning, struggling to find a small fair trade store because she couldn't remember where it was, i gave her directions up the block. not because i have a photographic memory and never forget where anything is but because i tread these streets far more than your average local. i've yet to have a bad walk to or from work. because i get to see the small storefronts you miss when you're in a car (or even on a bike). and i get to see gorgeous, dusk light on historical buildings (like the one up thurr) and because (for some weird reason) i love giving people directions in slo. i love recommending places to eat (woodstocks, san luis bbq, louisa's place), talking up sights to see (the mission, the children's museum, bubblegum alley) and giving lost college freshmen directions to starbucks. i don't know why. probably because i want everyone to experience every inch of a town that i'm completely obsessed with. that light, that brick, that phoenix book store! how could i not be?
i don't care that i'm working all day or that children have lungs of steel, i can't wait for my moment with slo as i walk back to the peppered palm. happy monday people!
