tuesday thoughts.

i desperately wanted to dye my hair red and perm it a la kate winslet in the titanic when i was younger (thanks a lot for the veto on that one mom) not only because kate winslet is insanely talented and gorgeous but also because titanic was, and still is, one of my favorite movies. as someone who is notorious for getting distracted in longer films, this one continues to hold my attention (and release a flood of tears) over and over again.

so i'm pretty stoked that my readings for history today, and our class discussion, are based on all things titanic. one of our readings focuses on the morality of artifacts from the titanic being put on display in a museum, an angle which i would have never thought of. personally, i think history is immensely important to delve into, tragedy included. the idea that we should hid our heads in the sand purely because the unearthing of such artifacts may be too intensely emotional for some seems a greater moral injustice. it just goes to show that there are always more than one side to every story.

i realize that my judgement is clouded by the fact that no amount of beautiful cinematography can possibly capture what really happened that april night and had i been there my views might be quite different. all interesting thoughts for a tuesday.

to wrap this ramble up let me leave you with these little tidbits to ponder on…

the titanic was not discovered for 73 years.

"history minus its tragedies would be a somewhat sketchy affair"

"museums are places for facts, not feelings - however painful"
