craft time w/ kat.
since deciding that i'm not really down with the idea of spending all day, every day in a classroom filled with children, i'm on the hunt for some things that will allow me to put my knowledge to use and still be an influence to children. one of my favorite things about my job at a local children's shop (Ecobambino) is getting to put on Craft Time w/ Kat once a month. we made bubbles yesterday and blew them out into people walking by. how can you not smile at that?
this morning, i drafted up a blog post with the recipe and process for the store blog. while i probably can't get away with doing something like this as a career, it's fun and i'd like to think a good addition to my resume.
another thing i absolutely adore about this environment is the people i get to meet. like the mom yesterday, who's son was chattering about star wars and light sabers while i was sanitizing toys (mommy! she said her favorite star wars guy is chewbacca!) after apologizing profusely about her child talking my ear off (i don't really get that, child talk is the best) and then realizing that i was a child development major, she shared her own experience of being a cd major, going into teaching and absolutely hating it and getting completely burnt out. sometimes i feel like the devil when i tell people that yes, i am a child development major and no, the idea of being put in charge of the education of 30 children does not cause me to break into song. so it goes. it's nice to hear that other women experience the same turn of mind that i have and that you can still continue to be a functioning adult.
for now i just feel like an elf in santa's workshop as we unload and tag box after box of toys coming into the store.
happy tuesday!
