slo business.
i love local slo businesses. looking past the fact that i could definitely imagine myself owning one in the far future, there's something so endearingly local about them. there's the signs in the windows that say, "out to lunch, be back soon!" or the increasingly random hours that they're open. or maybe just the quirky and personal customer service that the owners have to offer.
today being the first day of my week off work, i went to two local slo businesses. the first one being The Photo Shop, on higuera, in downtown slo. it's pricey, as with most of the local businesses here. but the service i get there is un-paralleled. the store owner is always there, with her soft spoken voice. she takes notice of the small things, like my nail polish, which she used to segway into a conversation about michelle obama. (still need to watch that speech!)
the second was The Fitting Image, on laurel lane, an alteration store. i stumbled across this place via the world wide web when i discovered that my score find of citizens jeans at the swap meet held a broken zipper. this place had the best reviews and so down johnson avenue i went. the staff was wonderfully nice despite how crazily busy it looked. and when i went to pick up my jeans this morning, i was greeted warmly not only by the workers but also by a small four legged worker. benefits to having your own business, always being able to bring your dog to work.
so there's my shout out to slo businesses. i do love a good target or costco run but there's nothing like my local businesses to keep the sunshine flowing.
