big sur.

the opposite of what these pictures portray, the trip was rather anti-climactic. we didn't plan out our route - shocking for me, not so much for steven - which meant we did a lot of driving, turning around, and more driving. i started getting sick saturday morning with some serious congestion and sneezing, which made any hiking a very real struggle.

i can't be a debbie downer about the entire trip, it was still incredible to get out of slo for the weekend and as you can see by the pictures we got to be surrounded by some amazing scenery. we got a great campsite by the beach in san simeon the first night. hiked to pheiffer falls in big sur saturday afternoon, and ended up camping in san simeon again the second night after a fairly sketchy experience with a camp director in northern big sur.

because i don't drive much, i don't mind driving for long distances. also, first road trip in my new car, other than driving it back from san jose. that car is such a dream, especially around the curvy parts of the road. i might have had a flash back or two to another red car driving fast around the winding roads of big sur...

besides the beautiful views, we also had some delicious food. first, at taco temple, friday night. yes, we stopped 30 minutes into our drive. then a hot bbq-ed breakfast courtesy of steven in the morning at our san simeon campsite. brunch and bloody mary's sunday at dorn's in morro bay after we cut the trip short because i felt so disgusting waking up sunday morning. and a pizza and pasta dinner at del's in shell beach after spending the evening at the beach sunday night, because we couldn't quite kick our eating out habit from the weekend.

the weekend, although not quite the escape into the wilderness we'd been planning on, was still a welcome escape. there's definitely a redo already in the works for the future.

p.s. all photos taken with my new phone. i splurged and got the new iphone 6 and besides its obnoxious increase in size i'm pretty stoked on it. and no, i haven't had it bend or tried to charge it in the microwave.
