I think I’ve fallen in love with the sunny interior of 863
Monterey Street. There’s something absolutely welcoming about the big windows
and hardwood floors at EcoBambino that takes coming into the store to
experience.
My name is Kat Thompson and I’m honored to be writing for
the blog as part of my internship with the store for Cal Poly. I’m earning my
undergraduate in Child Development, with a minor in Psychology, and am in my
fourth year at Cal Poly. Originally from
SLO, after being accepted to Cal Poly I found I wasn’t able to leave the hiking
trails and habitually 70 degree, sunny weather. Cal Poly has offered me a
variety of experiences and opportunities in expanding my knowledge on child
development. I’ve had the pleasure of working at the on-campus preschool lab,
interning at Pacheco Elementary in a first grade classroom and taking classes
taught by incredible, inspiring men and women.
Human development is a remarkable thing across all ages but
it’s in childhood that real, lasting change occurs. Working at EcoBambino and
seeing how truly invested parents, family and friends are in their children’s
development has made the knowledge and experience I’ve acquired at Cal Poly a
much stronger reality. Sitting in a classroom, viewing information through
PowerPoints and lectures is one thing but seeing babies smiling, squirming,
wailing and giggling makes the theories I’ve learned much more concrete and
rewarding. I’m fascinated by what influences development in children across the
physical, cognitive and social domains and I want to share this passion with
you! I’m excited to make theory and research a grounded, relatable source of
information for those invested in the development of the children in their
lives by blogging to you about current issues and concerns.
I hope I can provide valuable, current information that can
help you better understand what makes your baby wail, your toddler’s
imagination soar and your children develop in the best way possible. I hope I
can make you laugh, ponder and reflect on what an incredible process child
development is. In turn, my hope for you as readers is that you give me feedback
on what works for you! I can be reached by email at, kthomp09@calpoly.edu . While I do blog
for personal enjoyment, blogging for a business is an entirely new creature to
me. Your feedback is always appreciated!
Thanks for stopping by the blog and I hope to see you in the
store soon!
This is the first blog post I've written for my internship with EcoBambino. I'm pretty stoked on the whole process and once the blog officially goes live I'll be sure to link it here so ya'll can follow.
Happy Sunday!
