It must be summer
Cause the streets are bare
And I try your number
But you're just not there
Cause the streets are bare
And I try your number
But you're just not there
("It Must Be Summer" -- Fountains of Wayne)
this song is feeling pretty accurate to my life as of late. summers always seem to be much more hectic than the school year. but then again they're jammed packed with all the things i love most, friends, outdoors and sunshine. and work, but even that can be fun as well.
but i haven't had a lot of time to sit around and just blog, so along with the pictures, i'll do a bit of actual blogging...
first up! sidecar. it's a new (ish) restaurant in slo that chrissy and i tried out tonight. for those of you familiar with the term - hipster, it's an excellent way to describe the place. for those of you not familiar with the term, i suggest, urbandictionary.com. in any case the menu was filled with things like brie cheese and fig marmalade. of course i ended up ordering the most mainstream thing on the menu, the all american, not being much of a hipster myself. the burger was not too great. i'd even go so far to say that i prefer the burgers of in n' out to this "all american burger". and there it is folks, probably the nail in my coffin for never, ever being included in the hipster community. (fine by me) but the fries. i'll talk all day about those fries. if the burger was one of the worst i've had, being beaten out by the cheeseburger i naively ordered from campus market, these fries were the best. they were covered in sea salt, excellent. and the water service, which is typically how i rate my restaurants, was impeccable. the waiter left a jug of water, a one of a kind, hipster glass jug none the less, at our table. so i was left to pour as much water as i pleased throughout our meal. perfection. it was a little on the pricier side, but for those looking for some interesting, hipster ambiance, some rad music, and dim lighting, this might be the place for you.
my next review goes to savages, one of the few movies i've seen in theaters this summer. i really enjoyed it, despite it's lengthy run time. the music was good, if you're into rock / reggae. and the filming was pretty rad as well, if you're into the feeling of being on an acid trip while viewing the ocean. original plot and a twisted ending. lots of torture and at times a bit graphic. but i definitely enjoyed it.
as for the last word in my alliteration of a title, i'll keep it simple. the sunsets here lately have been superb. sunset surfing, while perhaps not the most "safety first" oriented activity, is one of the most beautiful things to do. a picture's worth a thousand words.
so til next time, happy summer days.
